Community Activities

At Guildford URC

we offer a range of friendly activities for adults in the local community whether you would like to make new friends, meet others in a similar position or try something new. Our activities are open to all, you don’t need to be a member of our church or have any religious affiliation.

Weekly activities

Rummikub

Come and join us for a friendly game of Rummikub on Mondays from 10am-12pm in the Sanctuary. Don’t worry if you haven’t played before, all are welcome.

This activity is free of charge.

Sunflower Café

Sunflower café provides friendly and interactive sessions for those living with dementia, their carers and those feeling lonely.

It runs every Wednesday from 10.30am-12pm with a varied programme of activities and time to chat and get to know others in the group. Open Access Arts ( https://www.openaccessarts.co.uk/ ) lead 2 sessions per month, which include creative work, plus reminiscence, games, movement and more. Once per month a professional singer and choir leader leads music/ singing sessions. We also offer  less structured sessions such as coffee and chat/ quizzes/ games as well as informative talks/ Q&A sessions for carers within the programme. Right at Home (https://www.rightathome.co.uk/guildford-and-farnham/ ) provide a member of their staff team to support the sessions who can also give advice on caring for those with dementia.

This group is free of charge, however donations are welcome.

Short Mat Bowls

Short mat bowls runs from 10am-12pm each Thursday in the Main Hall. Suitable for new or experienced players, everyone is welcome. The group has a coffee break and chat halfway through the session.

This activity is free of charge.

Monthly Activities

Walking Group

The Walking Group meets once per month on a Monday and includes walks in local areas, all of which are accessible by public transport. Walks are maximum of 5 miles with stop offs at a cafes/ pubs. The meeting location is decided each month.

Book Club

This informal Book Club meets once per month on a Thursday. Group members choose books for the group to read. Everyone in the group reads the same book each month then comes together to chat about it and enjoy some refreshments.

This activity is free of charge.

Community Music

Intergenerational Music Making (IMM) provide interactive community music sessions on the first Friday of the month. The session runs from 11am-12pm in the Sanctuary and is free of charge, but donations are welcome. The sessions aim to bring together a variety of groups of people of all ages through music and includes singing and instruments. All are welcome.

Lunch Club

On the first Friday of each month Lunch Club runs from 12pm in the Sanctuary, after our Community Music sessions. Join us to socialise over a lovely lunch, a main course, dessert followed by teas/ coffee and sometimes a quiz!

Booking is required, £5 per person. Dietary requirements can be catered for.

Film Club

One Friday per month the Film Club meets to watch a feature film and has a discussion about the film in the interval. Refreshments and choc ices or popcorn are included.

This group is free of charge, however donations are welcome.

Other Activities

Holiday at Home

Holiday at Home runs for 2 days in the Summer and 1 day in December. It is an opportunity for older people to come together to socialise with friends and enjoy a fun day of activities and lunch. Previous Holiday at Home events have included musical performances, talks, poetry readings, dancing, quizzes and much more.

Warm Welcome

Guildford URC is open as a Warm Welcome hub from 9.30am-12pm Monday-Thursday. We offer a warm space, friendly chat, hot drinks and biscuits and wifi. You are also welcome to join in with the other activities that we have running on the day. All are welcome. Free of charge.
