Guildford Town Centre Chaplaincy – Street Angels

Guildford URC has supported Guildford Town Centre chaplaincy since the beginning along with a trustee and members of the congregation volunteering as Street Angels. Street Angels have helped to ensure many town centre revelers get home safely. Help is offered to the homeless and anyone is difficulty who might need some help. Street Angels are well known for lollipops and flip-flops, but also dispense water and tissues, wet wipes, space blankets, hand gel and first aid.

Christians Against Poverty (CAP)

CAP is a national debt counselling charity with a network of debt centre’s based in local churches. Along with other local churches GURC supports the Guildford CAP which is based at Westborough URC.

Volunteer debt counsellors can meet you in the privacy of your own home to offer free practical advice and support.

Oakleaf

Oakleaf offers a range of services to empower people living with mental illness to gain skills, training and confidence to manage their mental health and return to work.

Services include work related training to gain new skills, confidence and qualifications. Well being activities and courses designed to build health, well-being and reduce isolation. Counselling services to support clients in their recovery.

Salvation Army Foodbank

Working with other local churches, individuals and church organisations we support the Guildford Foodbank based at The Salvation Army in Woodbridge Road.

The Foodbank covers the Friary and St Nicolas wards of Guildford.

If you have any donations for the foodbank, please do bring them to church.

Guildford Action

Guildford Action seeks to support those in the community who are struggling, traumatized, living on the edge or in danger. Through its Family Support Services, Day Centre and Inclusion programmes Guildford Action provides help, support and friendship to those most in need.

Cherry Trees

Cherry Trees is a charity providing exceptional home-from-home, specialist short-break respite visits for children and young adults aged 0-19 with a range of complex disabilities including learning, physical and sensory impairments.

Cherry Trees is a unique place, providing professional care in a safe, stimulating and fun environment, where every child is valued for who they are. It is a community that is dedicated to children and young people, enabling them to spend time with friends and enjoy new experiences and opportunities, while their families have a much needed break from care themselves.

Christian Aid

Alongside many other churches in the UK, Guildford URC supports the work of Christian Aid.  Seeking to end to global poverty through campaigning and working with partners to end the suffering of the world’s poorest people.

Christian Aid responds to the urgent and immediate humanitarian needs of communities affected by disasters, conflict and violence.

Christian Aid supports partner organisations to reduce the number of individuals and communities living in extreme poverty in all its dimensions.

Commitment for Life

Commitment for Life (CfL) is the world development programme of the United Reformed Church.  Participating churches are encouraged to take action, pray and give in support of  people across the world, but especially in the three partner countries/regions:
– Bangladesh
– Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory
– Zimbabwe.

CfL provides support for  Christian Aid (80%) and Global Justice Now (formerly The World Development Movement) (10%). The remaining 10% is used for education, campaigning and administration.

Guildford URC is a CfL church and members follow all the regions with interest. The church makes a significant donation to CfL annually and supports it through regular giving.
